The Delaware Blue Hens have been a staple of consistency under head coach Ryan Carty. The team saw few players leave the program after their incredibly successful 2025 campaign, their first in the FBS. That feat is impressive on its own. However, the staff at Delaware has showcased an ability to find diamonds in the rough with ease. And, it’s helped build stability through a program that may have otherwise struggled. The 2027 recruiting class for the Delaware football program shows distinct selection, with a couple of excellent commits that can bolster the Blue Hens moving forward.
Delaware Football: 2027 Recruiting Class Updates
Depending on where you look, the 2027 recruiting class for the Delaware football program is ranks from No. 121 to No. 134. While that may not be eye-popping, the Blue Hens are known for finding diamonds in the rough. Players like Melkart Abou-Jaoude, Nick Minicucci, and Gavin Moul highlight three elite players that only Delaware was in on. Because of that, it’s better to look at the quality of the team’s commits rather than its quantity.
Jameson Tingle, Quarterback
Tingle was the first 2027 commit to the Blue Hens, and a homegrown talent. Coming from Lewes, Delaware, Tingle is a 6-foot-2 prospect that provides a good floor as a developing player. The Cape Henlopen quarterback is a solid dual-threat, throwing for 1567 yards last season while rushing for 699. Tingle is a playmaker with the ball in his hands, and makes the difficult look easy.

Last season, he totaled 24 touchdowns on the year. Yet more impressively, he’s careful with the football.
Tingle threw just three interceptions last season. Ball security is an important aspect in Coach Carty’s system, and Tingle could find himself right at home with the Blue Hens. While he has an uphill battle to take over the starting role once Minicucci departs, he will develop under one of the best offensive minds in the sport.
AJ Truedell, Running Back
For Delaware, running back has been a place of inconsistency. Enter 2027 commit Aaron (AJ) Truedell. Despite being just 5-foot-9, Truedell is an explosive and strong prospect. He’s already benching 315 pounds, and has incredible agility for the position.
Truedell reads his blocking assignments with ease, following the flow of those ahead of him. More impressively, he has the in-space agility to avoid defenders and the strength to shed arm tackles. Combined with speed to score from distance, and Truedell could be a game-changing addition to the Blue Hens.

Charles Carpenter-Simms, Safety
Charles Carpenter-Simms (CCS) is an unheralded prospect from the northeast. He’s been heavily recruited by multiple FCS programs in the area, while also receiving offers from Navy. Yet, he chose to commit to Delaware, and that’s excellent news for the Blue Hens.
Standing at 6-foot-2, Carpenter-Simms provides great length for the position. He’s also ranked as the No. 6 safety in the state of Massachusetts. In high school, CCS played as an outside cornerback that excelled in press coverage and physicality. He was a staple in run defense, and never afraid to lower his shoulder for a big hit. Meanwhile in zone, CCS knows how to bait a quarterback into a bad throw, making plays on the ball in the process. But you don’t need to believe me, his HUDL tape showcases all those traits, and more.
With KT Seay in his senior season, CCS could be a plug-and-play replacement for the Blue Hens in 2027.
Kodi Gbanite, Defensive Line
A three-star prospect from Livingston, New Jersey, Kodi Gbanite is an interesting addition to the Delaware defense. In high school, he played throughout the trenches with a lot of success. Gbanite has excellent timing, and a unique ability to “get skinny” between blockers to make plays in the backfield.
Personally, one would like to see more moves in his arsenal when getting past blockers. Being in the FBS, speed alone won’t win along the trenches. However, the Delaware strength and conditioning group, as well as the defensive coaches, are known to get the best of their linemen. The strength and growth is among the best in the nation, and Gbanite provides the frame and skill for an excellent developmental prospect.
Cooper Hodson, Offensive Line
A three-star prospect, Hodson spent the majority of his time playing at tackle for Providence Day School. However, being 6-foot-3 and 310 pounds, it seems like he’s moving along the interior at Delaware – which will be best for his professional aspirations.
Along the interior, Hodson will be able to showcase his quickness, strength, and leverage. He always keeps his feet moving, and utilizes his eyes to create lanes downfield through his blocking. In pass protection, Hodson shows excellent leverage and blocking ability. He was rarely beat, utilizing quick feet to stay under center throughout the assignment. The North Carolina prospect will be an excellent addition to the Blue Hens.
