FIU Football: Ole Miss transfer DeeJay Holmes Jr. commits to Panthers

Ole Miss transfer DeeJay Holmes Jr. commits to FIU

On Tuesday, FIU football announced that they have added Ole Miss transfer linebacker DeeJay Holmes Jr. through the transfer portal. This marks the first player the Panthers have added through the portal following the spring game.

Holmes, a Pahokee, Florida, native, was rated a three-star recruit coming out of high school and rated a top-100 edge defender by 247Composite (No. 64), On3 (No. 52) and ESPN (No. 78). He was also rated as the No. 63 prospect in Florida by On3. Some of his offers included 16 power conference offers (including Ole Miss) and offers from four group of six teams. In the end, Holmes went with Ole Miss.

In three seasons with the Rebels, Holmes played in nine games, posting six total tackles (two solo/four assisted) and 1.5 tackles for loss. This past season, he played against Georgia State, Tulane, The Citadel and in the College Football Playoff game against Tulane. Holmes entered the transfer portal following the season.

FIU listed Holmes as a defensive lineman on their announcement, insinuating a position change. Per the Ole Miss website, he stands at 6-foot even, at 250 pounds.

The Panthers defensive line room had some questions entering 2026. With that in mind, they went ahead and added depth to a room that underwent plenty of turnover this offseason, with veterans Keegan Davis and OlasunkonmiĀ Agunloye. Kenton Simmons and Dante Anderson will likely be the primary edge rushers, with a group of Germaine Carter, Nathan Jennings, R.J. Moss and Anthony Smith as the interior defensive linemen.
