Film Notes and Highlights
DeWayne Carter has a good repertoire of power and finesse moves to win against his assignment. However, his hands are inconsistent, as are his leverage points. This can cause him to be completely taken out of plays – especially in the run game – despite a (usual) good first move.
Carter doesn’t give up on a play, but his power at the tackle point and angles leave a lot to be desired. Far too often Carter would take bad angles from an advantageous spot, over pursuing or just being completely lost on a play. There were many occasions of him not following through on his tackles, allowing for chunk plays to occur. In the games I watched, Carter had more whiffed tackles than solo tackles – and that spoke volumes to me. Carter still has potential, but he’s a Day 3 pick in my opinion. – Thomas Christopher

Plays like this occur often watching Duke DT DeWayne Carter. Good movement gets him past his block but poor angle and strength at tackle point turn a TFL into a game winning touchdown.
