The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets just continue to blaze the college football recruiting trail. They’ve earned 22 recruits in June, and this most recent haul could have earned them their crown jewel of the class.

Georgia Tech Football Recruiting Round-Up: June 17-24

Four-star offensive tackle Joshua Sam-Epelle committed on July 19, and Sam-Epelle is considered the best recruit the Yellow Jackets have earned, according to Rivals’ recruiting database. They earned two more four-stars on July 18: EDGE Justin Weeks and corner Larry Moon.

Now, the Yellow Jackets have the No. 23 class in the nation and No. 5 in the ACC. They’ve gotten 25 commitments in total, and their class is as diverse as it gets. Georgia Tech will have many interesting incoming players for the 2027-28 season, provided they all sign and enroll.

All rankings are via Rivals’ recruiting database.

OT Joshua Sam-Epelle

  • Position: Offensive Tackle
  • Height/Weight: 6-foot-9, 330 pounds
  • HS/City/State: Douglas County, Douglasville, Georgia
  • Pos./State/National Rank: 14/16/170

Sam-Epelle is the closest Georgia Tech has gotten to a five-star prospect in this class, and the Yellow Jackets even won it over the Georgia Bulldogs in a rare recruiting battle with Georgia.

Sam-Epelle is a people mover in the run game. He generates a lot of power from his legs and hips in his technique, and his footwork is pretty strong. That allows him to get a lot of velocity and oomph from his arms, and with his 85-inch wingspan, he has a lot of reach to plant edge rushers in the ground in the run.

I saw a tad bit of jersey grabbing in the tape, but if he can improve his hand placement consistency, he has the potential to be Georgia Tech’s answer at left tackle for the 2028 or 2029 season. He dominated his competition to a different degree in Douglas County, and I expect big things from his collegiate career.

EDGE Justin Weeks

  • Position: Edge Rusher
  • Height/Weight: 6-foot-5, 240 pounds
  • HS/City/State: Douglas County, Douglasville, Georgia
  • Pos./State/National Rank: 31/34/329

Weeks is another worthwhile addition to the pass-rush recruit room that Georgia Tech has clearly prioritized. Weeks is a very tall addition to the class, and his size comes with some advantages.

On tape, Weeks dominated with his size. He can overpower with his strength and motor, and instead of a toolset of finesse moves, he uses violent hands and a bull rush to put offensive linemen in the dirt. He’s very stout and has great compete level in the run, making him a great run defender off the bat.

Georgia Tech struggles to solidify the edge against the run, and Weeks can help with that. The Yellow Jackets’ edge rush group is very deep, with Weeks joining Braden Gordon, Kalib Spivey, and Success Nwabude in the class. It is a very dangerous group for Georgia Tech to employ, and Weeks stands out as a tall, massive run-defending edge rusher.

CB Larry Moon

  • Position: Cornerback
  • Height/Weight: 5-foot-11, 190 pounds
  • HS/City/State: IMG Academy, Aliquippa, Pennsylvania
  • Pos./State/National Rank: 40/35/373

Moon and Weeks committed to Georgia Tech within 20 minutes of each other. While Weeks adds more talent to the stockpile of edge rushers the Yellow Jackets have at their disposal, Moon is the only corner recruit Georgia Tech has earned so far.

Moon was asked to play a boundary corner role for IMG Academy, a program known for fostering several elite cornerbacks, so the fact that he’s already lining up against X or Y receivers is promising. He had the agility to stay in phase with any receiver he played, and sometimes he even kicked the tires enough to get back into the route.

If he can improve the way he uses his hands at the line of scrimmage without overdoing it, that will go a long way towards becoming elite. He has great potential, and at IMG Academy, he’ll have plenty of training and experience to get there.

Georgia Tech’s Class Status

With these three commits, Georgia Tech now has nine four-star recruits and 25 recruits overall. While they have the No. 23 recruiting class, they could be looking at the mid-teens with a few more blue-chip recruits. Their front seven has earned several with three defensive linemen, four edge rushers, and three linebackers committing to Georgia Tech.

However, they’ll still need to attack the cornerback. AK Crummel is a name to watch, as the three-star has been on an official visit to Georgia Tech. Four-star corner Censere Gaylord listed Georgia Tech in his top four as well, and the Yellow Jackets have invited him to an official visit, too.
